The Dos And Don’ts Of Article Submission

By Karen Hines | November 12, 2009

If you enjoy writing, and have a talent for it, then why not consider writing articles for websites? Fresh material is always being sought after by webmasters and your articles might very well be snapped up. The best part is that you’ll get paid for your efforts. Here are some good tips on article submission.

Internet articles are written slightly differently to the conventional articles you read in newspapers or magazines. Your style should be simple. The contents of the article should be pitched in a brief but informative manner to hold the person’s interest. Use short, concise sentences throughout. Clumsy lengthy sentences are a turn-off.

Think of your article title first. How does it look to you? If you like it, you’ll probably be able to flow easily into writing the article. If you battle to get into the swing of starting the article, try changing the title. This may inspire you to begin writing from a completely different angle and the words will surge from your keyboard! Be creative with your title – don’t be shy to use catchy, quirky or trendy words.

Your introduction must immediately address the subject you’re writing about. In this way, the person who is reading will be interested from the onset and, hopefully, read the article to its end. When writing for the internet, don’t make articles longer than 300-500 words. Remember, the reader is looking at a screen and usually wants information quickly.

Don’t get technical when writing articles for the internet. This can often give the message that you are showing off your knowledge. The information that you are sharing in the article should be presented in a user-friendly way. No matter what subject you’re writing about, keep the tone of the article light. Don’t bombard readers with heavy, superfluous information!

Don’t be frightened to include humor in your articles. Humor is always refreshing to any reader and, once again, your chances of the whole article being read will be increased. Begin some paragraphs with questions about the topic, and give some unusual facts about the topic. Internet articles must be written in English, UK or USA (both are acceptable). Don’t write in the first person. Address your reader directly, using ‘your and you’.

Write your article in Notepad or Word. When completed, do a grammar and spell check and proofread carefully. Once you’re happy with the result, your article will be ready for submission. First thing to do is open a PayPal account on the internet so you can get money for your hard work! Now you’re ready to log onto a ‘how to’ site and register.

Before you submit your first article, familiarize yourself with the site and read other articles that have been submitted. If you’re satisfied that your article is just as good as them, then go for it. After a few days, check your PayPal account to see if any payments have been made. That’s it. Good luck and good writing!
